TOPIC: Learning with Puppets

TITLE: The Puppet Project

INTENT: To incorporate use of technology with language arts and theatre design and production in a process of collaborative planning, whereby groups of 5th grade students will be active participants working together to produce a puppet show that they will create, film, edit, and then share online.

GRADE: Fifth Grade, In groups of three.

PROCESS:
Research: Students select a story or script that is meaningful or has relevance to age group from a list of websites given by the teacher.
Editing/
Planning: Decide on puppet characters,
Create descriptions and dialogue for a 5 minute production,
Select individuals for voice parts,
Decide on materials needed.
Production: Modify puppets to fit characters
Create scenes, sets and props needed with supplies provided.
Delivery: Each group will video tape their production then
Product: Edit video with editing software like i-movie to add sound effects or music, and then share the video on a blog or you tube. (not sure which is best).

DRAMA AND THEATRE: Standard 3: Understand and apply the skills of acting, design, and technical theatre and understand and apply the skills of acting, design, technical theatre and the role of drama in various cultures in history.

VISUAL ART STRAND: Standard 1: Visual Arts:
Understand and apply art material, techniques, and processes in the creation of works of art and understand how the visual arts communicate a variety of feelings and experiences.
